Does This Mean What I Think It Means?

by Gabrielle on May 26th, 2008

So we did it. After years and years of seeing dozens of people walking around ArtsFest every Memorial Day weekend with them, we finally bought one for ourselves -a handcrafted broom. Heck, we even got a pot scrubber/vegetable washer (to clean our new weekly batch of organics) while we were there.

We were walking down Front Street with our new purchases, en route to see one of our favorite local bands (who happens to be a jam band) and Michael asked this question:Pot Scrubber

“Does this mean that we’re hippies?”

Good lordessa, man! I exclaimed. One purchase and an affinity for herbie does not a hippie make.

And then I remembered that I had spent the morning baking bread and making hummus while Michael cleaned the house, putting my baking soda tips and tricks to the test.

And he replied, “Well, if it looks like a duck and sounds like a duck….”

Which I suppose means that he think we could be classified as hippies.

Is that such a bad thing?

I wouldn’t say hippie, more cruchie than hippie. At least that is how I think of myself & my vegetable garden, vinegar cleaning, domestic recycling home :)

I love hummis. Haven’t had it in ages. I wish I could buy more organic foods but they are so darn expensive.

The only problem I have with a pot scrubber/ vegetable washer like the one pictured is that it looks like there could be a lot of places for bacteria to hide…not that what everyone else is using is any better about that kind of thing.

Hi Scott! Whenever I have a craving for hummus I just throw some canned chick peas in the blender along with olive oil, tabouleh, garlic, cumin and a little lemon and just mess around with the portions until it tastes like I like it, add water until its the consistency I like. (Start off slow with the tabouleh).

Organics are, unfortunately, often still more expensive than non-organic. When we did the math, signing up for the CSA and weekly deliveries was actually much cheaper than buying organic produce every week. Maybe that’s something you could check out?

Good point about the pot scrubber - but then again, I’ve seen my old synthetic ones….any ideas for an anti-bacterial solution?

    Gab:

If you still shave under your arms, you’re not a hippie. :) At least, that’s the way I see it.

You know, I’ve actually considered not shaving my armpits, just to see how fluffy it would get. Would it look cool and sexy despite what advertisers would have us believe? Or would I just look like I was smuggling a squirrel under my arm?
